WENATCHEE — Four players scored in double figures as the Peninsula College women’s basketball team opened its season with a 64-56 road win over Wenatchee Valley.
Alison Knowles and Miranda Schmillen led the Pirates with 15 points apiece, and Gabi Fenumiai scored 11 points and grabbed 15 rebounds, including six off the offensive glass.
Madison Pilster added 12 points.
Schmillen, Fenumiai and Pilster are all in their first seasons playing for Peninsula College.
Schmillen scored the majority of her points at the free-throw line, where she made 11 of 15. The freshman point guard also had seven rebounds.
Peninsula made 22 of its 30 free-throw attempts, shooting at a 73 percent clip.
The Pirates also dominated the boards, outrebounding the Knights 49-27.
Wenatchee’s Darian Gasseling led all scorers with 16 points.
Peninsula next plays Friday at the Everett Tournament.
