COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula men split a pair at Skagit tournament

MOUNT VERNON — The Peninsula College basketball men split two games this weekend at the Skagit Valley Turkey Tournament.

The men beat Portland Community College 78-65 on Saturday, then lost to Elite Prep, a basketball academy based in Southern California, 68-64 on Sunday.

Four Pirates ended up in double figures in the PCC game, led by Trent Warren with 18. Cole Rabedeaux had 14 points, while Omar Lo added 13 (and seven rebounds) and Darrion Daniels 12 points and four assists. Sam Velez added eight rebounds for the Pirates.

The Pirates shot exactly 50 percent (28-for-56) in the game.

In the Elite Prep game, Cole Rabedeaux hit five 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Peninsula. Daniels scored 13 points, while Warren added four 3-pointers and scored 13 with seven rebounds. The Pirates fell way behind after one half 42-28. They rallied in the second half, outscoring Elite Prep 36-26, but the comeback fell short.

Peninsula has its first home game at 7 p.m. Saturday against Green River for the Pirate Classic.
