COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula men seal tournament berth; women rally for win vs. Skagit Valley

MOUNT VERNON — All five Peninsula College starters scored in double figures as the Pirate men’s basketball team pounded the Skagit Valley Cardinals 90-62 Wednesday night.

The win clinched an NWAC Tournament berth for Peninsula and puts the Pirates within a win of securing the NWAC North’s second seed to the conference tournament.

Forks’ Marky Adams led the team in scoring and rebounding with 18 points and 15 rebounds, five on the offensive glass. He also had two blocks and no turnovers in 29 minutes of playing time.

Cameron Burton added 14 points on 6 of 9 shooting. He led the team in assists with eight and also added five rebounds and a steal.

Colby Jackson filled up the stat sheet with 14 points, including four 3-point baskets, five rebounds, four steals and three assists.

Trent Warren scored 17 and added seven boards and four assists and Kaelin Crane added a dozen points.

Eli’Sha Sheppard scored 10 off the bench for Peninsula.

The Pirates (8-4, 18-9) have won three straight games.

Peninsula hosts Edmonds (6-6, 18-9) at 6 p.m. Saturday.

MOUNT VERNON — Trailing after every quarter through three periods, the Pirates pulled past the Cardinals in the fourth quarter and upset the NWAC North’s third-place team on the road Wednesday.

Jamellia Clark led the way inside with 22 points on 8 of 11 shooting, including knocking down a three. She added eight rebounds, an assist and hit 5 of 6 free throws on the night.

Tiffani Smith added 17 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals for Peninsula (4-6, 6-16).

Ashlynn Sharp added 17 points, six rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Pirates.

The 3-point shot aided Peninsula, as the Pirates connected on 8 of 20 from the floor, while the Cardinals hit 4 of 14 3-point attempts.

Peninsula hosts Edmonds (2-8, 5-20) at 4 p.m. Saturday.
