COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Peninsula men lose final nonconference game

Pirates lose to Highland

DES MOINES — The Peninsula men wrapped up their preconference schedule with a road loss against a good Highline team 87-75.

The men were led by Davien Harris-Williams, who hit four 3-pointers and scored 20. Malik Moore added 15, including some crucial points during a second-half rally, while Samuel Kahapea scored 13. Nayir Cleveland and Erik Kelly each scored eight. Moore led the geam with eight rebounds while Kahapea had seven.

The men got down big to the 11-3 Thunderbirds, who appeared to be cruising at 80-63 with 5:40 left in the game. But, the men put on a furious 10-1 rally over the nect four minutes, making the Thunderbirds swear at 81-73 with 1:06 left in the game. Moore scored six of the 10 points during that run.

But Highline was able to make four-straight free throws and a basket in the final 66 seconds to fend off the Pirates.

Peninsula (3-11) begins North Division play hosting Bellevue (8-4) at 7 p.m. Wednesday. The Peninsula women (7-5) also begin North play against Bellevue (4-8) at 5 p.m. Wednesday in Port Angeles.
