PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula women erupted for a 29-point fourth quarter to run away with a 78-57 win over Olympic in the Pirates’ first home game since the first week of April.
Meanwhile, the men also won, beating Edmonds 82-66, to improve to 4-3.
The women had four games canceled due to COVID-19 protocols, but have returned with two straight wins.
Peninsula en-tered the fourth quarter holding on to an eight-point lead at 49-41. The Pirates hit four 3-pointers — shooting 4-for-5 from beyond the arc — and shot 12-for-23 overall in the fourth (52.2 percent) to blow the game open. They also forced nine turnovers in the fourth.
Coach Alison Crumb said it was kind of a sloppy game, but her players “kicked it into high gear” in the fourth.
Tatianna Kamae led the way for the Pirates, scoring 20 points and four steals while shooting 4-for-8 from beyond the arc. Sequim’s Hope Glasser had a great game, scoring 13 points and pulling down 12 rebounds while tallying four steals and three assists.
Crumb said it was good to see Glasser have a great game because she has been working hard, but just hasn’t seen her shots dropping yet.
“She’s one of our leaders by example,” Crumb said.
Crumb thinks the layoff for the Pirates was a good thing after an 0-2 start to the season. The team has been much more energized since it returned to action with a pair of wins.
“We have a young team, we’re almost all freshmen. It was a great opportunity for us to set pause,” she said.
The Pirates had five total players in double figures. Tayvia Cabatbat had 13 points with seven rebounds. Ariyanna Camacho-Villafuerte and Tasia Little each scored 11. Little added 10 rebounds and five assists.
Jasmani Apker-Montoya, a former Port Townsend player, started for Olympic and scored eight points, making a pair of 3-pointers.
The Pirates (2-2) next play at Bellevue (3-1) on Wednesday.

The Peninsula men had a well-balanced attack with four players in double figures and 13 players overall scoring while beating Edmonds 82-66.
“Everybody on the active roster scored,” said coach Donald Rollman.
Rollman said the Pirates didn’t play great and made too many turnovers after a week-long layoff. Peninsula had a game postponed Wednesday because the Pirates’ opponent was in COVID-19 protocol.
“But we got it done, that’s what’s important,” Rollman said.
The game was close five minutes into the second half, as the Pirates held a lead of just 47-44. A 9-0 run sparked by 3-pointers from Ty Artis and Mikey Medlock blew the game open as the Tritons were never able to get the Pirates’ lead down to single digits again.
Vince McFarland led the Pirates with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Artis had a near-triple double with 12 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. He added three steals.
“He’s [Artis] done so much for us,” Rollman said. “When he gets the rebound and gets out on the floor, he’s hard to stop.”
Isaiah Sampson had 12 points and eight rebounds, and Medlock had 10 points. Jaylin Reed had seven points and seven rebounds.
Peninsula (4-3) next plays at Bellevue (4-2) on Wednesday.
