LAKEWOOD — After nearly three weeks without a game, the Peninsula College women’s basketball had a humbling return to competition with three losses in three days.
The Pirates started with a 64-58 loss at Highline on Thursday, then moved on to the Raider Invitational at Pierce College-Fort Steilacoom where they fell to Lane 91-59 on Friday and host Pierce by a score of 71-61.
Three Pirates further established themselves as the team’s offensive leaders during the three-game skid.
Alison Knowles, Madison Pilster and Gabi Fenumiai combined to score 137 of Peninsula’s 178 points in the three games, and were responsible for 51 of the team’s 66 made field goals.
Fenumiai had 17 points and 15 rebounds, including six offensive boards, in the loss to Highline.
Knowles scored 16 points, making 4 of 8 3-pointers, and Pilster scored nine points and pulled down nine rebounds against the Thunderbirds.
Against defending NWAACC champion Lane, Pilster scored a game-high 20 points. She also had six rebounds and three steals.
Knowles added 14 points and Fenumiai scored 11 to go along with nine rebounds.
Pherrari Brumbaugh led the Peninsula with five assists in the game.
In the loss to Pierce, Fenumiai had a monster game with 16 points and 15 boards. The freshman from Juneau, Alaska, is second in the NWAACC in rebounding, averaging 13 per game.
Pilster and Knowles shared game-high scoring honors in the loss to the Raiders with 17 apiece.
Pilster, a freshman from Blackfoot, Idaho, made 3 of 4 from 3-point range and grabbed eight rebounds.
Point guard Olivia Henderson dished out five assistant and had three steals for the Pirates.
Peninsula (2-5) returns to action Friday at the three-day Clark Crossover Tournament in Vancouver, Wash.
The Pirates open the tournament against Mount Hood (1-6).
