COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Jaylin Reed, Millie Long power Peninsula in men and women’s sweep of Bellevue

Reed scores 30, Long swipes 7 steals

BELLEVUE — Peninsula controlled the offensive and defensive glass and heated up from inside and out in a come-from-behind 85-80 NWAC men’s basketball victory over the Bellevue Bulldogs on Wednesday.

The Pirates trailed 43-35 at halftime.

“We were a little tight in the first half, and it was about getting to the spots on the floor where we would be successful,” coach Donald Rollman said. “We needed to get the ball centered and get it to the baseline, get some postups, get some drives and some kickouts.”

Jaylin Reed hit 6 of 9 shots in the second half, including three 3-pointers, on his way to a game-high 30 points for Peninsula.

“Jaylin had a great half. He changed the spots on the floor he was attacking,” Rollman said. “He hit a couple of dribble pullups and some deep, deep 3s.”

Mikey Medlock came off the bench to hit for 16 points, knocking down 4 of 6 3-pointers in the second half.

“Mikey was huge for us. He hit about four 3s in five possessions,” Rollman said.

“Rebounding was significant in our success. We had 13 offensive rebounds overall, three on one possession. Creating those second chances was a difference maker.”

Peninsula (4-2, 12-6) visits No. 4 Shoreline (5-1, 12-3) on Saturday.
