COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Callaghan scores 18, but Peninsula men fall in scrimmage

[Updated to correct the day of Peninsula’s next scrimmage, which will be Saturday, not Sunday.]

PORT ANGELES — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team fell 87-80 to the Seattle Mountaineers in a scrimmage.

The Pirates were led by freshman Ryley Callaghan, who drilled 4 of 7 from 3-point range en route to a team-high 18 points.

As a team, Peninsula shot 10 of 23 on 3-pointers in Saturday’s game.

Jeremiah Hobbs contributed 13 points for the Pirates, Alex Ironside and Jonah Cook had 10 apiece and Kareem Babbs and Jal Deng each scored nine points.

Cooke led Peninsula on the boards with six rebounds.

Domach Domach had a team-high five assists, while Geno Horsley and Malik Mayeux each dished four.

Maazin Butler scored 41 points for the Mountaineers, a professional team based in Auburn.

The Pirates next play the Seattle Blue Angels in another scrimmage Saturday before starting their season Friday, Nov. 21, on the road against Highline.
