PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College last week announced its annual athletics awards winners, which included Sequim’s Hannah Wagner and Port Angeles’ Wyatt Dunning.
The prestigious Wally Sigmar and Art Feiro awards for leadership, athleticism, academics and citizenship were given to one player on each team — Wagner for women’s soccer, Dunning for men’s basketball, Matthew Enriquez of Waikoloa, Hawaii, for men’s soccer and Shania Moananu of Kalihi, Hawaii, for women’s basketball.
The Pirate Gold awards for inspiration, dedication, accomplishment and ambassadorship went to Blake Plummer of Juneau, Alaska for women’s soccer, Alfie Tucker of Devon, England for men’s soccer, Lupe’lani Vaaia of Anchorage, Alaska in women’s basketball and Javon Ervin of men’s basketball.
Last week, Peninsula College announced that seven members of its women’s soccer team signed to play at four-year schools. Wagner signed to play at Vancouver Island University in Nanaimo, B.C., Plummer signed to play at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George, B.C., Alexia Rodriguez-Burdeaux signed to play at Northwest University in Kirland, Keilee Silva signed to play at St. Martin’s University in Lacey, Taya Bohenko signed to play at California State University, Dominguez Hills, and Sydney Soskis and Caneel Corpuz both signed to play at Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Ore.
Earlier this month, Peninsula announced that seven members of the Northwest Athletic Conference champion men’s team also signed to move on to four-year schools.
The players moving include Fin Muotone of Manchester, England, signed to play at NCAA Division I University of Pennsylvania, Tucker to the University of West Alabama, Pip van der Ende of Alkmaar, Netherlands, signed to play at the University of Northern British Columbia, Enriquez signed to play at Point Loma Nazarene, Tsubasa Abe of Saitama, Japan signed to play at Wilmington University and Zach Beehre signed to play at Multnomah University in Portland, Ore. Manny Garcia previously signed to play for OIT.
