BRIEFLY: Neah Bay boys basketball wins playoff opener

NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay boys basketball team allowed just seven points in the second half to blow open its tri-district tournament game against Cedar Park Christian on Saturday, winning easily 65-25.

The Red Devils, hosting a tri-district playoff game for the first time ever, got a big game from Kaeden Butterfield, who scored 22 points on 9-for-12 shooting. Jaden Halttunen had 13 points, Jodell Wimblerly had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Devon Halttunen had 10 rebounds.

Neah Bay outscored Cedar Park Christian 34-7 in the second half.

The Red Devils, a No. 5 seed, move on to the second round of tri-district on Tuesday, going to Mount Vernon Christian to play the No. 4-seed Hurricanes. Neah Bay stays alive with a win or a loss. The game is tentatively set for 4:30 p.m.

The Neah Bay girls got a first-round bye as a No. 2 seed. They play their tri-district tournament opener at 5 p.m. Tuesday at home against Orcas Island.

The Crescent boys and girls, both playing in tri-district for the first time in 20 years, were eliminated after their opening games. The boys lost to Puget Sound Adventist 64-30, while the girls lost to Evergreen Lutheran 47-35.
