BREMERTON — The Port Angeles boys swim team finished fifth in the West Central District Championship Meet this weekend.
The Roughriders had several outstanding individual performances and two top-six finishes by the relay teams.
The 200 freestyle relay team of Keane McClain, Finn Thompson, Landon Close and Alex Che had the best showing, coming in fourth and establishing a top time for the season.
“This was a huge accomplishment and a testament to the hard work and dedication these swimmers put in this season,” head coach Sally Cole said.
Blake Nahory earned top individual points for the Riders, setting a personal record in the 100 backstroke and claiming fourth place. He also played a key role in the 200 medley relay team with teammates Aidan Butterworth, Will Roening and Close, finishing sixth in that event.
Another notable individual performance included Che, who finished seventh in the 100 freestyle and ninth in the 50 freestyle.
Close placed seventh in the 100 butterfly and 10th in the 100 breaststroke. Davis Hueter took home an eighth place in the 500 freestyle, dropping an impressive 20 seconds from his time last week. Hueter also touched in 10th in the 200 freestyle.
Nahory and Thompson had strong swims, each grabbing 10th in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, respectively. Roening nabbed 12th in both the 200 IM and 100 backstroke.
Colby Ellefson, who practices and competes for Port Angeles during the regular season, now represents Sequim High School in the postseason. He pulled in 23 points by himself. He touched in fourth in the 200 freestyle and finished off the meet with a personal best in the 500 freestyle by more than 4.5 seconds, claiming third in that event.
This Friday, the Roughriders will head to Federal Way to compete at the 2A state championship meet at the King County Aquatic Center.
