BOYS SWIMMING: Roughriders dominate North Kitsap in dual

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles swim team this weekend dominated North Kitsap 111-64 in its last home meet of the year, winning nine out of 11 events.

The Roughriders improved to 4-0 on the season in dual meets.

The Riders’ 200 medley relay team of Finn Thompson, Nolan Medgin, Colby Ellefson and Thomas Jones finished four seconds ahead of the North Kitsap team. The same quartet also won the 400 freestyle relay with Medgin swimming the anchor leg.

Ellefson, Medgin and Thompson all won two individual events. Ellefson took first in the 50 freestyle sprint, winning by a large gap of three seconds. He also won the 500 freestyle distance race by 23 seconds. The Riders’ Jensen Wolfe narrowly missed second place by half a second, improving his time from last week by 8.5 seconds. He is just three seconds away from a district-qualifying time.

Thompson won the 200 individual medley, leading a clean sweep of the top three places. Eli Warren came in second and Jack Root third. Thompson also won the 100 backstroke with Wolfe in second in a personal-best time.

In the 100 freestyle, Medgin finished first, while teammate Isaac Meek came in second. Medgin also won the 100 breaststroke with Killian Waknitz in second, improving his best time by four seconds and edging closer to a district-qualifying time.

The Riders next swim at Kingston on Wednesday looking to keep their league record perfect.
