BREMERTON — Two Roughriders qualified for state and 12 district qualifying times were recorded as Port Angeles swamped Bremerton 111-58.
The Riders won and outscored Bremerton in 10 of 12 events in Thursday’s meet.
Tristin Butler qualified for his second state event after winning the 200-yard freestyle. Butler also earned a district trip with a win in the 100 free.
Wei-Yan Fu booked a state trip with a second-place finish in the 100 butterfly. He also earned a district time in the 100 breastroke.
Kaleb Sheldon won and qualified for districts in the 50 free and 100 backstroke for the Riders.
Cameron Butler was a double winner for Port Angeles, qualifying for districts in the 500 free and also winning the 200 individual medley.
Other district qualifiers for the Riders were: Ryan Amiot, who finished third in the 200 free; Noah Sinnes, who was fourth in the 200 and 500 free; Karsten Hertzog who placed second in the 200 medley and 500 free and Nathan Bock who was runner-up in the 50 and 100 free.
Port Angeles also won two relay events.
The 200 medley relay team of Sheldon, Fu, Cameron Butler and Kody Kuch finished first, and the 400 free relay team of Cameron Butler, Tristin Butler, Sheldon and Hertzog also won.
The Riders (2-0) host Kingston on Thursday.
Sequim trims times
POULSBO — The Wolves dropped a double meet with Kingston and North Kitsap, falling to the Buccaneers 133-30 and 136-29.
“We lost against both teams, but the Sequim swimmers had some good swims and personal bests,” Wolves coach Linda Moats said.
Liam Payne dropped four seconds off his best 50-yard freestyle time to finish fourth with a time of 30.99 seconds.
“His swimming was much smoother and his turns have improved a lot,” Moats said.
Christian Goodrich also shaved four seconds off his best 100 fly time to finish third after posting a time of 1:22.03.
Goodrich, who was third and David Calderon, who placed fifth, each cut time in the 100 back.
“We had a great race for the 100 back with Christian dropping six seconds off his best time and David dropping over 12 seconds off his best,” Moats said.
“Both boys have been working on improving their technique.”
Brandon Grow dropped 3 seconds off his best 100 free time and finished third with a mark of 1:11.27.
“The 200 free relay team of Calderon, Grow, Payne and Alex Berikoff swam well, and individual splits were faster than previously established,” Moats said.
The 400 free relay team of Goodrich, Calderon, Berikoff and Wendall Lorenzen dropped 55 seconds off their best time.
Sequim (0-3) swims Thursday at Klahowya.
