BOYS SWIMMING: Port Angeles sinks Olympic and Klahowya in double dual; other area reports

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles lapped Olympic and Klahowya in an Olympic League boys swimming double dual at William Shore Memorial Pool.

The Roughriders topped the Trojans 111-71 and eclipsed the Eagles 124-58.

Port Angeles’ times were used for competition against both opponents, which means the places and meet points scored may differ between the two competitions, but posted times are the same.

Tristin Butler earned a new state-qualifying time in the 100-yard butterfly, placing first in both competitions with a time of 57 seconds.

Butler also won the 200 individual medley.

Cameron Butler posted a district-qualifying time of 1:59.55 while winning the 200 freestyle for the Riders. He also placed first in the 100 breaststroke.

Port Angeles recognized six seniors competing in their final home meet Thursday: Nathan Bock, co-captain Wei-Yan Fu, Smit Kataria, Kody Kuch, Scott Methner and Kaleb Sheldon.

Sheldon achieved a district time in the 100 fly, finishing second with a time of 1:06.72.

Port Angeles (4-1) visits North Kitsap this Thursday.

PORT ANGELES — The Wolves recorded one first-place finisher and six second-place finishes against the Trojans.

Matthew Craig earned 164.6 points to win the 1-meter dive at Thursday’s meet at William Shore Memorial Pool.

David Calderon and Christian Goodrich both dropped time in the 100-yard backstroke while finishing second and third, respectively.

“David dropped six seconds off his previous best and Christian dropped a half-second,” Sequim coach Linda Moats said.

“They also placed second and third in this event against three Olympic swimmers.”

Liam Payne finished second in the 100 breaststroke.

“Liam continues to improve his time in this event,” Moats said.

“He’s getting stronger and subtle changes in his technique have really made a difference in this race for him.”

Sequim will host Bremerton at William Shore Memorial Pool on Wednesday.
