BOYS SWIMMING: Port Angeles, Sequim hit the pool in opening meets

SEQUIM — The Port Angeles boys swim team narrowly lost to North Kitsap 84-81 in the Roughriders’ opening meet of the season.

The Roughriders’ 200-yard and 400-yard freestyle relay teams both won with district-qualifying times in Tuesday’s meet held at the Sequim YMCA because the William Shore Memorial Pool in Port Angeles is still being refurbished.

The Riders’ 200 team of Taylor Martin, Henry Shaw, Alex Che and Alex Hertzog won with a time of 1 minute, 42.98 seconds, while the 400 team of Martin, Shaw, Josh Krzysiak and Josh Gavin had a time of 3:51.43.

Additionally, Port Angeles’ 200 medley relay team (Hertzog, Gavin, Krzysiak, Che) that finished second also qualified for district with a time of 1:54.81.

Individually, Martin won the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:03.75 seconds, Hertzog won the 100 backstroke in 1:07.68 and Krzysiak won the 100 butterfly in 1:02.33.

Gavin was second in both the 200 individual medley (2:13.64) and the 500 freestyle (5:21.31), while Adam Boyd was second in in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:14.65.

The Port Angeles boys (0-1) will next swim at 3 p.m. today at Klahowya (0-1).

Olympic 104, Sequim 59

BREMERTON — Sequim went up against the defending 2A state champion Olympic and got seven second-place finishes and a win in the 100 breaststroke.

Jesse Bobst won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.85.

Individuals and relays finishing second include:

• Kaleb Needoba, 200 individual medley, 2:18.02; 100 butterfly, 1:00.08 .

• Zen Graham, 500 freestyle, 26.18 (losing only to defending state champion Dietrich Meyer).

• Deven Biehler, 500 freestyle, 6:40.55.

• Myles Tadlock, 200 freestyle, 2:28.25.

• 200 medley relay (Needoba, Bobst, Graham, Biehler), 1:56.13.

• 200 freestyle relay (Jordan Hurdlow, Bobst, Tadlock, Plasch), 1:51.62.

• 400 freestyle relay (Needoba, Biehler, Hurdlow, Grahama), 4:03.95.

Sequim (0-1) will next swim at Kingston (1-0, the No. 3 team in the state last year) at 3 p.m. today.
