BOYS SWIMMING: Port Angeles makes waves in win over Sequim

Roughrider swimmers win

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys swim team splashed Sequim 126-47 in the aquatic iteration of the Rainshadow Rumble rivalry.

The Roughriders tallied six new individual district qualifying times while winning 11 of 12 events and outscoring the Wolves in 11 of 12 events.

Port Angeles also had three double-event winners as Cameron Butler claimed the 200 freestyle in 1 minutes, 54.65 seconds and the 100 breaststroke with a district qualifying time of 1:13.64.

Tristin Butler added wins in the 200 individual medley (2:04.68) and the 500 free 4:58.73 for the Riders.

Karsten Hertzog also won twice with district qualifying marks in the 100 free (55.56) and 100 back (1:08.60).

Other district qualifiers for Port Angeles included Alex Hertzog with a runner-up finish in the 200 IM (2:30), Jonas Kongerslev was second in the 100 free (56.99) and Milo Atwater was second in the 500 free (5:40.53).

Sequim’s 200-yard medley relay team of Jax Thaxton, Liam Payne, Christian Goodrich and Alex Berikoff won their race and trimmed a second off their previous district quality time.

The four also qualified for districts in the 200 free relay.

“It was awesome to watch,” Wolves coach Linda Moats said. “Their time of 1:51.34 was a combined effort from faster swims from each team member.”

Port Angeles (4-1, 4-1) will host its senior night swim meet against Bremerton on Thursday, Jan. 26.

Sequim (0-4) swims at home against Kingston (4-0) on Thursday.
