POULSBO — Port Angeles edged out North Kitsap 97-86 in a tight Olympic League boys swimming dual at the North Kitsap Community Pool.
“[We] pulled together as a team with multiple individuals recording season best times to the end the regular season with a victory,” coach Rich Butler said.
The Roughriders won seven of 12 events, and outpointed the Vikings in seven of 12 events.
Tristin Butler bettered two of his state qualifying times while winning the 200-yard individual medley and the 500 freestyle.
“Tristin dropped seven seconds in the 500 free clocking in at 5:01.46,” Rich Butler said.
“He’s less than a second and a half from getting below the elusive sub-five minutes.”
Wei-Yan Fu earned first place and a district qualifying time in the 200 free.
Fu also won the 100 butterfly.
Cameron Butler beat his previous state qualifying time in the 500 free.
“Noteworthy performances came from Nathan Bock and Karsten Hertzog,” Butler said.
“Nathan placed second in both his individual events: 200 free and 100 free and led off the winning 200 free relay.
“Karsten placed third in both his individual events: 200 free and 500 free and led off the winning 400 free relay.”
Port Angeles (5-1) finished second in the Olympic League.
The Riders will host the divisional invitational at William Shore Memorial Pool on Tuesday.
Diving events begin at noon and swimming starts at 3:30 p.m.

PORT ANGELES — A short-handed Wolves swim team fell to the Knights at William Shore Memorial Pool.
Liam Payne won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:25.51 and Wendall Lorenzen was second for Sequim after finishing in 1:29.41.
Lorenzen also dropped 12 seconds off his best time while finishing second in the 200 free.
Matthew Craig won the 1-meter dive with a score of 170.4.
“Mathew beat his best score for this season by 0.25 points,” Wolves coach Linda Moats said.
The 200 medley relay team of Payne, David Calderon, Christian Goodrich and Alex Berikoff, dropped more than three seconds off its best time.
“Christian dropped two seconds off his best 50 fly, and David dropped a second off his best 50 back,” Moats said.
The Wolves will swim at the divisional meet in Port Angeles on Tuesday.
