BOYS SWIMMING: Port Angeles adds relay team to district qualifiers

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles swim team qualified its first relay team — the 400-yard freestyle relay — of the season for state competition during the Divisional Invitational.

The team of Milo Atwater, Karsten Hertzog, Cameron Butler and Tristin Butler placed first Tuesday with a qualifying time of 3 minutes 31.57 seconds.

Two Roughrider divers qualified for District. Andrew Methner placed first with a score of 331.40, while David Jensen came in third with 316.60.

Atwater also qualified for District with a time of 2:01.12 in the 200 freestyle and Jonas Kongerslev qualified in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:26.18.

Port Angeles has a total of nine athletes qualified for postseason in the District meet and will have three relay teams at the meet.

Districts will be held Feb. 10 and 11 at Hazen High School in Renton. The diving competition will be held at Lindbergh High School, also in Renton.

The preliminaries on Friday, Feb. 10 will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday’s finals start at 5 p.m.

Sequim swims

The Sequim boys’ swim team qualified two relay teams and an individual swimmer for Districts at the Divisional Invitational.

The Wolves’ 200-yard medley team of Jax Thornton, Liam Payne, Christian Goodrich and Alex Berikoff qualified for District with a time of 2 minutes, 7.75 seconds, getting in under the Districts standard of 2:10.

Sequim’s 400 freestyle relay team of Berikoff, Payne, Goodrich and Thaxton qualified for District with a time of 4:18.98 (4:20 is the qualifying time). The foursome crushed their previous top time by 14 seconds to make it to District.

Thaxton also qualified in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:08.73.
