POULSBO — Colby Ellefson added to his existing tally of all-time best Sequim High School boys swimming times with another record-setting performance in a meet against Kingston Wednesday at the North Kitsap Community Pool.
With no Wolves swim team this season, Ellefson has been competing on the Port Angeles boys swim team. He and the Roughriders edged Kingston 100-76.
Ellefson broke the Sequim school records in both the 200-yard individual medley, clocking in at 2 minutes, 13.22 seconds, and the 100 backstroke in 1:00.49.
He previously set the Wolves’ all-time bests in the 200 and 500 freestyle in 2023.
Port Angeles opened the meet with a win in the 200 medley relay.
Finn Thompson, Nolan Medgin, Thomas Jones and Ellefson secured an early lead with a 10-4 advantage over the Buccaneers.
In the 200 freestyle, Isaac Meek and Jack Root swam personal bests placing third and fourth respectively and earning five important team points for Port Angeles.
Port Angeles seized control with second through fourth place finishes in the 200 individual medley by Ellefson, Eli Warner and Greg Fetterman.
Medgin’s win in the 50 free, coupled with Jones securing third with a personal-best time, widened the gap for the Riders and Port Angeles took a momentary 33-29 lead.
However, Kingston took the diving event, leaving Port Angeles trailing by two.
“The 100 butterfly marked a pivotal moment for PA, with Edward Gillespie clinching first place gaining six points, and Jack Root and Myles Close jointly contributing three more crucial points,” coach Sally Cole said.
Port Angeles comeback
The Riders’ performance in this event not only brought the score to a tie but also set the stage for a comeback by the Port Angeles boys swim team.
Port Angeles surged ahead after the 100 free, with Thompson in first, Medgin second and Meek in fourth. The Roughriders were now up by eight points and maintained their lead for the rest of the meet.
In the 500 free, Thomas Jones and Jensen Wolfe delivered standout performances, securing second and fouth places, respectively. Wolfe’s swim left him just one second shy of earning a district qualifying time.

claimed 1st in the 200 Free Relay, extending Port Angeles’ lead.
The 100 back event saw a clean sweep by the Roughriders, which widened the Riders lead to 84-62 over the Buccaneers. It was Ellefson in 1st, Thompson in 2nd, and Wolfe in 3rd.
In the 100 breast event, Waknitz secured third, finishing only .75 seconds away from a district qualifying time.
Port Angeles concluded the meet with a commanding win in the 400 Free Relay. The team of Jones, Medgin, Ellefson and Thompson finished on top by an impressive 17 seconds, sealing the Riders’ victory.
