BOYS SOCCER: Sequim’s Alcaraz, Valuenzuela and Port Angeles’ Miller on All-Olympic League team first team

PORT ANGELES — Youth was served for Sequim and Port Angeles during the recent Olympic League boys soccer All-Olympic League selections.

Out of the seven players recognized from the North Olympic Peninsula, six are sophomores or freshmen — and the lone upperclassman is a junior.

Sequim landed its two top players on the first team in voting conducted by Olympic League coaches: sophomore forward Joshua Alcaraz and junior goalkeeper Nolan Valenzuela.

Alcaraz was the team’s hardest worker offensively and Valenzuela kept the Wolves close in a number of games due to his skills in goal.

Port Angeles sophomore Matthew Miller also was a first-team selection. Miller scored a Peninsula-high 23 goals for the Roughriders.

Second-team picks for Sequim were junior forward Preston Kurtze, hero of the two Rainshadow Rumble rivalry games between the Riders and Wolves, and sophomore midfielder Finn Braaten.

Port Angeles’ sophomore defender Grant Butterworth and freshman midfielder Kanyon Anderson also earned second-team honors.
