BOYS SOCCER: Port Angeles loses to first-place North Kitsap

PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles boys soccer team, rebuilding with a roster primarily of freshmen and sophomores, finished its home season with an 11-1 loss to Olympic League-leading and No. 2-ranked North Kitsap on Friday night.

Jordan Saluskin and Braylon Helms shared duties in goal in the first half for Port Angeles. Freshman Hunter Eller got his first varsity time in goal for the Roughriders in the second half.

The Riders got a moment of glory in the 74th minute when sophomore Matthew Miller beat several Viking players in the midfield and got in behind the North Kitsap defense. He put a low shot to the left corner of the goal as the keeper came out, scoring his 20th goal of the season.

North Kitsap finished the regular season unbeaten and is ranked No. 2 among 2A schools in ratings percentage index.

Undefeated on the year North Kitsap added 3 more goals in the 2nd half. The Vikings are getting ready for District playoffs with a current RPI rating of 2nd in the state for 2A schools.

It was senior night for A.J. Martines, Braylon Helms and Javier Mora as almost the entire Roughriders team comes back next year.

Coach Chris Saari named Miller the offensive player of the match, Oliver Martinez and Kanyon Anderson the transition player of the match and Aurelio Wilson-Rojero the defensive player of the match.

The Riders (2-10, 3-11) will wrap up their season at 6:45 p.m. Monday at Bainbridge (10-2, 11-3).
