BREMERTON — In their final dual meet of the season, the Port Angeles boys swim team claimed victory as they faced off against Olympic, capping off their Olympic League record at 5-1.
The final score was 110-51 for the Roughriders as Port Angeles took first place in nine out of 11 events, with three of those events resulting in clean sweeps.
The meet kicked off with the Port Angeles squad clinching victory in the 200 medley relay, spearheaded by the quartet of Colby Ellefson, Nolan Medgin, Thomas Jones and Finn Thompson.
In the 200 freestyle event, Port Angeles responded with a complete sweep. Jones led the charge, securing first place. Teammate Isaac Meek touched the wall in second, achieving a personal- best time by three seconds. Charlie Kasten rounded off the sweep, claiming third place.
The Riders replicated the sweep in the 200 individual medley. Thompson surged ahead to claim the top spot, setting a personal season record in the process. Eli Warren secured second place, while Edward Gillespie clinched third.
Medgin grabbed top honors in the 50 freestyle and Ellefson secured first place in the 100 butterfly by a remarkable nine-second margin.
The 100 freestyle proved to be a tight race with the Trojans. Thompson narrowly missed out on first place by a mere .09 seconds, though he delivered a personal-best performance.
Jensen Wolfe demonstrated his endurance in the 500 freestyle, claiming victory. Ellefson continued to dominate in the 100 backstroke, securing another first place,while teammate Jack Root nabbed second, showcasing an improvement of 3.6 seconds from his previous time.
The Roughriders culminated the individual events with yet another sweep in the 100 breaststroke. Medgin led the charge, taking first place, followed by Killian Waknitz, who improved his time by two seconds, earning him a spot in the district championship meet. Leif Moody finished third, showcasing an impressive 20-second drop in his time.
The meet came to a close with the Riders taking second place in the 400 freestyle relay. Jacob Howe, Cliff Hales, Wolfe and Waknitz made up the team for this event in the final race of the evening.
Port Angeles will travel to Poulsbo for the Olympic League divisional meet Wednesday. This meet represents the Roughriders’ final opportunity to advance more swimmers to qualifying spots for the district championships.
