PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend boys basketball team rallied to a 51-48 Olympic League win over North Mason.
After a five-point third quarter, the Redskins entered the fourth trailing 42-38.
Port Townsend outscored the Bulldogs 13-6 over the final eight minutes to grab the win.
The Redskins (3-9, 5-10) now have a two-game lead over the Bulldogs (1-11, 4-11) for the seventh spot in the Olympic League. As a Class 1A school competing in a 2A league, Port Townsend must finish seventh of better to earn a play-in game for the district playoffs.
Russell finished with 15 points, nine assists, four steals and four rebounds. He made 3 of 6 3-pointers.
Skyler Coppenrath added 11 points and eight rebounds and Paul Spaltenstein scored 10 points and grabbed seven rebounds and had four steals. Both Coppenrath and Spaltenstein had four offensive rebounds.
Jacob King led the Redskins with 10 rebounds, five of which were offensive, to go along with seven points.
Port Townsend plays at last-place Klahowya (0-11, 1-13) on Tuesday.
Hoquiam 74, Forks 42
FORKS — The Spartans were routed in their first home game in three weeks against the league-leading Grizzlies.
“It was pretty much an all-around thumping,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said.
“I felt like we just kind of gave up. I’ve never criticized our guys for effort, but as soon as a few things didn’t go our way . . .
“I was kind of disappointed in that.”
The Spartans led Hoquiam 10-6 in the first quarter, but the Grizzlies finished the frame on an 8-0 run and Forks never recovered.
Leo Gonzales topped the Spartans with 11 points, followed by 10 apiece from Colton Raben and freshman Parker Browning. All of Browning’s points came in the fourth quarter.
“He came in and was a huge spark off the bench,” Gooding said.
“He came in, had a ton of energy. I thought he played well.”
Port Angeles 74, Klahowya 38
PORT ANGELES — The Roughriders kept pace in the race for the district playoffs by destroying last-place Klahowya at home.
Port Angeles (8-4, 10-6) remains in a virtual tie with Olympic (7-4, 9-6) for third place in the Olympic League.
Hunter Hathaway led the Riders with 20 points on Friday against the Eagles.
Derek Schumacher added 14, Brady Konopaski had 11 and Steven Lauderback scored seven.
Port Angeles and Olympic saw their postseason chances increase with losses by North Kitsap and Kingston on Friday.
The Riders have another critical league game Tuesday against North Kitsap (6-5, 9-6) on the road.
Neah Bay 82, Crescent 37
NEAH BAY — The top-ranked Red Devils rolled to 35-5 lead after forcing 12 Loggers turnovers in the first quarter on their way to a North Olympic League blowout win at home.
Neah Bay (3-0, 10-1), ranked first in The Associated Press Class 1B poll, was led by 13 points apiece from Abraham Venske and Jongi Claplanhoo.
Kenrick Doherty Jr. chipped in with 11 for the Red Devils.
Travis Walker led Crescent with 10 points and Martin Waldrip and Cody Wolfer had six apiece for the Loggers.
Neah Bay faces Clallam Bay on Wednesday and Crescent takes on the Bruins on Friday.

Double Dual
Forks 43, Montesano 24; Forks 51, Elma 24
ELMA — Forks dropped Montesano and host Elma in a Evergreen 1A League double dual.
The Spartans had two wrestlers win two matches: 138-pounder Ricky Barragan won 17-3 against Montesano and 14-7 against Elma, while Gavin Castaneda (182) won by fall in the first round against both the Bulldogs and the Eagles.
Forks (5-0, 7-0) visits Hoquiam for the league’s dual-meet championship on Thursday.
Klahowya 57 Port Townsend 33
SILVERDALE — The Eagles knocked off Port Townsend in an Olympic League wrestling match on Thursday.
Winners by pin for the Redskins were Shae Shoop at 120-pounds, Kade Wilford (138 pounds) and Matt Cain (152 pounds).
Port Townsend also picked up a 2-0 win by decision from 113-pounder Peter Glitsch.
The Redskins host Bremerton in a Senior Night match on Thursday.
Boys Swimming
Port Angeles 140, Sequim 42
SEQUIM — The Roughriders sunk their rivals in an Olympic League swim meet on Thursday.
Sequim’s Eric Prosser won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:17.22, improving his time by a second and coming with 4.3 seconds of a state qualifying time.
He also won the 100-backstroke in 1:05.03.
Wolves coach Linda Moats praised Jared Kneidl, Wendall Lorenzen, Daniel Newell, Zak Robinson and Christian Goodrich for dropping seconds off their event times.
Port Angeles hosts Olympic on Thursday, while Sequim takes a break before a divisional meet at Port Angeles on Feb. 4.
