BOYS BASKETBALL: Spartans win Pacific B League; Neah Bay remains perfect

FORKS — The Spartans sealed their second straight league championship, this one in the Pacific 2B League, with a blowout win over the Seagulls.

Forks will host a home game in the district tournament as a top seed.

Riley Pursley went off for a career-high 27 points for Forks (8-0).

“Lots of energy from him, steals and layups,” coach Rick Gooding said. Raymond Davis also had a good scoring night with 13 points.

Gooding liked the defensive effort from his guys.

“We played our 2-3 and 1-3-1 [zones] and they had a kid who scored 42 against Chief Leschi,” Gooding said. “He had 12 of their 34 but we always knew where he was at. We were up 35-15 at halftime and we thought we hadn’t hit our groove.”

A 26-point third quarter changed that mindset.

“We had a stretch where we were running and gunning and Logan [Olson] hit a 3 and Riley got some runouts,” Gooding said.
