SEQUIM — The Sequim boys basketball team completed its third game in four days with a win, holding off East Jefferson 64-40.
“That’s a well-coached team. It’s neat to see two rival schools come together,” said Sequim coach Greg Glasser. “We were fortunate to come out with a win. Our defense was the key.”
Tyler Mooney started his first game for the Wolves and led the team with 19 points and six rebounds, while Erik Christiansen scored 17. Lonnie Kenney led East Jefferson with 16 points. Pryce Glasser added 10 rebounds for Sequim and Isaiah Moore had nine points and seven rebounds.
Michael Petta had seven points for East Jefferson, while 6-foot-4 freshman Keidan Guzman had five points. Glasser called Guzman East Jefferson’s best player and said Mooney did a good job guarding him.
“It was an improvement over our first two games,” said East Jefferson coach Emmanuel Abbott.
Abbott said Kenney played a good game and that Guzman is going to be a player to watch.
“Michael Petta came in late and played a lot of good minutes for us,” Abbott said.
The Wolves (2-2), who have already played a lot of games, don’t get much of a break as they take on Port Angeles (2-0) at 7 p.m. today.
East Jefferson (0-3) hosts Klahowya (0-3) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Port Angeles 76, Olympic 26
PORT ANGELES — Already up by 20 points at the half even after Olympic hit a shot from the backcourt at the halftime buzzer, Port Angeles stiffened defensively in the second half, limiting Olympic to just seven points on the way to a 76-26 boys basketball victory over the Trojans.
“Our depth and the fact that we are in really good shape, so the pace we play at is really paying off in the second half for us,” Roughriders coach Kasey Ulin said.
“It’s unity. We are really connected on both sides of the ball, and whatever we are running, we have five guys in the right spots with active hands.”
Wyatt Dunning led Port Angeles with 15 points and also added eight rebounds, three blocks and three steals.
Seven Riders scored six or more points in the game.
“We really bought into passing the ball and we had 20 assists last night, a lot of unselfish basketball,” Ulin said. “It reminds me of the Zags, nobody really cares who scores. They are our points, our shots.”
Xander Maestas added 14 and Adam Watkins 11.
“Adam Watkins has been remarkable,” Ulin said. “He plays extremely hard and is really mobile for how strong he is.
“Chase Cobb might be the best defender we have ever had. He defends every position.
“Dru Clark might be our best pesky defender, he’s averaging six steals a game and we can match him with Xander and bring unbelievable effort and energy.”
Port Angeles (2-0) hosts rival Sequim (2-2) at 7 p.m. today.

RAYMOND — The Spartans held down the Seagulls defensively, allowing just 12 points through three quarters.
“There were a boatload of turnovers for each team but we managed to turn some of them into buckets,” Forks coach Rick Gooding said.
“We sped the game up at the start to make them a little uncomfortable and tried using our athleticism, size and length to get to balls.
“It’s nice to be up 20 at halftime because your defense is doing the hard work.”
Trey Baysinger led a balanced group of Spartan scorers with 12 points, while Tony Flores added 10.
Neah Bay transfer Darrin Horejsi made his Forks debut with seven points.
Raymond was without leading scorer and point guard Tre Seydel.
“He broke his foot, unfortunately,” Gooding said.
Forks’ next two contests against Northwest Christian and Ocosta have been canceled due to COVID issues at those schools. The Spartans (4-0) are scheduled to host Chief Leschi on Tuesday.
