SEQUIM — A third-quarter swoon sank Sequim in a 64-51 boys basketball loss to Kingston at home on Tuesday.
Playing without injured senior leader Erik Christensen, the Wolves hung tight with the Buccaneers throughout the first half and trailed 26-25 at the break.
But Sequim couldn’t connect from the field in the third quarter, and Kingston took advantage.
“We honestly got the shots that we wanted, and we couldn’t hit them,” Wolves coach Greg Glasser said of the third quarter.
“They played a zone, and we were able to get the ball inside and we just couldn’t finish. And on the other end, they kind of broke us down and made a number of shots late in the shot chock. They were patient and waited for our defense to break down, and we did.
“Offensive rebounds hurt us, too. In the first half, particularly in the first quarter, we did a good job of keeping them off the boards, but they got some timely offensive rebounds and kickouts for 3-pointers.”
Sophomore Isaiah Moore led Sequim with 17 points and seven rebounds.
Tyler Mooney added 13 points.
“He was able to get inside for us and draw some fouls,” Glasser said.
The Wolves (2-4) visit Klahowya on Saturday.

CHIMACUM — The Roughriders posted 64 first-half points on their way to an Olympic League road win Tuesday.
Port Angeles (5-0) was led offensively by Wyatt Dunning, who canned 21 of his game-high 25 and Xander Maestas, who had all 17 of his points before the break.
Dunning hit all three 3-point shots he attempted.
“He did a little bit of everything,” coach Kasey Ulin said. “25 points, eight rebounds and shot 11 of 16 from the floor.
“Defensively, we were really good early. Our rotations were sharp, and we had a lot of hands in passing lanes to force turnovers and some easy baskets.”
Ulin said Port Angeles took 49 shots, 42 of which were within 5 feet of the basket.
“We had unbelievable balance, and we shared the ball offensively with 25 assists,” Ulin said.
“Chase [Cobb] was phenomenal offensively and defensively, Dru [Clark] was really active, and John [Vaara] was connected and challenging for us inside,” Ulin said.
Business is about to pick up for the Riders, who host Class 3A Bainbridge (4-0, 4-1) tonight and head to face defending state-champion North Kitsap (5-1) on Saturday.
East Jefferson (0-5) visits North Kitsap tonight.

JOYCE — The Loggers struggled to score in a physical contest against the Bears.
“The guys gave an incredible amount of effort today in this game,” coach Chris Ferrier said. “I can’t fault the competitiveness and the drive of my players. Right now we are just struggling with putting the ball in the basket. We missed 10 free throws and close to 25 shots in the paint, and we end up losing by 15.”
Brendan Bergstrom led Crescent with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Brenton Dalton also had a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, and Austin Sage scored five points and grabbed 10 boards.
“It was a very physical game, and I’m super proud of my guys for keeping their composure and just being able to keep playing hard and clean through the game,” Ferrier said. “Chief Kitsap shot the ball well even as we were defending them well.”
