PORT TOWNSEND — Sequim went on a huge 30-5 run in the second quarter en route to a 70-28 boys basketball win over Port Townsend on the road.
Tuesday’s victory was the sixth win out of their past eight games for the Wolves. Sequim also beat Port Townsend earlier this season 63-36 at the Redhawks’ Crush in the Slush Tournament in December.
Nine different Wolves scored. Leading Sequim was Nate Despain with 15 points on three 3-pointers. He added four assists. Dallin Despain had 13 points on 6 for 9 shooting, while Hayden Eaton had 11 points on a perfect 5 for 5 shooting. Blake Wiker added eight points and seven rebounds, while Erik Christiansen had six points and six rebounds.
The Redhawks were led by Jaden Watkins’ 10 points, while Cole Crawford scored seven and led the team with seven rebounds.
Sequim also got good news Tuesday that Olympic lost to North Kitsap 61-57, which keeps the Wolves all alone in third place in the Olympic League 2A Division. The Wolves’ (6-3, 11-6) next game will be a league battle at first-place North Kitsap (8-1, 14-3) on Friday. In the first meeting of the year between the two teams, North Kitsap won by 15, but that game was close going into the fourth quarter.
Port Townsend (2-2, 7-7) returns to Olympic League 1A Division play with a home game against rival Chimacum (0-4 2-11) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Forks 76, Chimacum 56
CHIMACUM — Forks got 30 points and eight 3-pointers from Cort Prose, overcoming 20 points from the Cowboys’ Issac Purser in a 76-56 win over Chimacum.
“It was one of those games where every time we got up, a cap would go on the basket,” said Forks coach Rick Gooding.
“Chimacum is definitely much improved from the last time we played them,” Gooding said. That game was a 76-35 Forks win.
Seth Johnson and Trey Baysinger had 12 for Forks, while Henry Brebberman had 14 and Cole Dotson had eight for Chimacum.
Forks (4-1, 13-4) next has a huge road game on Friday against Montesano (5-1, 11-7) for undisputed first place in the Evergreen 1A League. The first time these two teams met in Forks on Jan. 8, the Bulldogs won 67-63. That’s the last game the Spartans have lost.
Chimacum (0-4, 2-11) will play an Olympic League 1A Division game at Port Townsend (2-2, 7-7) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Port Angeles 72, North Mason 36
BELFAIR — Port Angeles forced 27 turnovers and dominated the boards while crushing North Mason 72-36 on the road to remain tied for first place in the Olympic League 2A Division.
“We used our size and played physical. We’re good when we play physical,” said coach Kasey Ulin.
The Roughriders also won their sixth straight game without one of the main starters, Kyle Benedict, who sat nursing an ankle injury. Gabe Long took his place and filled up the box score with five points, eight rebounds, 8 assists and six steals.
They were led in scoring by Garrett Edwards, who scored 16 points to go along with seven boards.
Ulin said it was a good defensive game for the Riders. They outrebounded the Bulldogs 38-23 and scored many of their points in transition. The Riders scored 34 of their points in the paint.
After a very emotional win over previously undefeated North Kitsap on Friday, Ulin said the team talked on Monday about not having a letdown against the Bulldogs, who are in the lower half of the league.
“We talked about how we’re not going to have a dropoffs,” Ulin said.
Gary Johnson added 15 points. four assists and four steals, while Payton Schmidt scored 11 for the Roughriders. Liam Clark led the team with eight rebounds, though Ulin said it was really “rebounding by committee” for the Riders.
Port Angeles’ (8-1, 13-4, No. 11 RPI) next game is a home battle at 7:15 p.m. Friday against Olympic (5-4, 9-8), which nearly beat North Kitsap on Tuesday. This is the Riders’ last regular season home game and senior night.
