PORT ANGELES — A fast start buoyed by tough defense propelled the Port Angeles boys basketball team to its third straight win, a 67-40 blowout of Klahowya.
“It was 11-0 after 3 minutes,” Roughriders coach Kasey Ulin said of Friday’s game.
“We had a couple spurts where we lost our intensity, but overall the kids played hard and it was a good team win.”
Lambros Rogers led Port Angeles with a double-double, scoring 17 points with 13 rebounds and seven steals.
“Carson Shamp had 14 points and played well off bench,” Ulin said.
“Carson has the ability to give us 10-15 points on any given night off the bench and that is a great asset to have.”
Grayson Peet added 12 points for the Riders and Noah McGoff scored nine.
“Grayson and Noah played well, especially defensively,” Ulin said.
Port Angeles (2-0, 5-2) hosts Archbishop Murphy in a nonleague game Monday.

JOYCE — The Bruins knocked off the Loggers in the North Olympic League opener for each school.
“It was a highly competitive game,” Crescent coach Chris Ferrier said of Friday’s game.
“Clallam [Bay] made a few more shots in key times and held us off just enough to gradually pull away.”
Kyle Keys scored 19 for the Bruins to lead all scorers.
Ryan McCoy added 13, Alan Green scored 11 and freshman Caiton Smith scored a career-high seven for Clallam Bay.
“KC Spencer had a pretty awesome game [with] 13 points and six rebounds,” Ferrier said.
“Our bigs really got after it on the glass. Neil Peppard had eight boards and McCabe Story had seven boards.
Both teams will play Quilcene over the holiday break.
Crescent visits the Rangers on Tuesday, while Clallam Bay heads to Quilcene on Tuesday, Dec. 29.

FORKS — A day after a game with the run-and-gun Neah Bay Red Devils, the Spartans’ legs were lacking in an Evergreen League loss to the Beavers.
Tenino freshman Yngwie Dowies broke a late tie with a go-ahead 3-pointer to help the Beavers to the win on Friday.
He scored 19 points to lead all scorers.
Forks coach Rick Gooding said his team missed 15 shots inside the paint and only converted 52 percent from the free throw line.
“You can kinda see the difference in the game,” Gooding said.
“We had no legs. They sat in a 1-2-2 zone and made it hard to penetrate from up top. We had good success getting inside from the baseline but you have to hit your shots.”
Parker Browning led the Spartans with 16 points.
Forks post Marky Adams tweaked his ankle against Neah Bay and was limited, scoring nine points.
Cole Baysinger was a bright spot, scoring 14 for Forks.
“Cole came out and did some great things and it was good to see,” Gooding said.
“He really is that kid that can be the second or third scorer for us. He’s so stinkin’ athletic.”
The Spartans (2-2, 2-4) visit Eatonville on Monday.

BREMERTON — Both teams struggled with their shooting, but the Trojans warmed up late, pushing past the Wolves for the win with a 17-point fourth quarter.
Olympic post Jumier Johnson scored 10 of his 17 points in the final frame of Friday’s game.
Sequim shot just 10 of 43 from the field (23.3 percent), and 3 of 17 from beyond the 3-point line.
The Trojans managed 14 of 47 shooting (29.8 percent), and missed all 10 shots from the perimeter.
Jackson Oliver led the Wolves with 11 points and added six rebounds.
Payton Glasser scored nine points and had 12 rebounds.
Despite all the missed shots, Sequim managed just six offensive rebounds.
The Wolves (0-3, 3-4) visit perennial power Lynden on Monday.

PORT TOWNSEND — Something had to give in a rivalry game between two winless teams.
Detrius Kelsall led the Redhawks with 13 points and Jacob Ralls added 11 as Port Townsend (1-0, 1-5) claimed the first of three Olympic League 1A contests this season with Chimacum (0-1, 0-6).
James Porter scored 13 points for the Cowboys.
The host Redhawks entertain Neah Bay in the Crush in the Slush Tournament on Monday, Dec. 28.
Chimacum visits 3A Bainbridge on Tuesday, Dec. 29.
