PORT TOWNSEND — Port Townsend broke a close game open with a 22-12 third-quarter run to push past rival Chimacum 65-44 in an Olympic League 1A Division contest.
The Redhawks led 28-18 at halftime but Chimacum’s Aidan Hartnett opened the third quarter with a 3-pointer to pull the Cowboys within 28-21.
Port Townsend was keyed by 16 third-quarter points from Detrius Kelsall. Kelsall had been hampered with three early fouls that had him sitting for much of the first half.
The Redhawks (2-0, 3-0) host Port Angeles on Friday.
Chimacum (1-1, 1-5) hosts Klahowya on Friday.
Aberdeen 56, Forks 50
ABERDEEN — Forks suffered its first loss of the year on the road to Class 2A Aberdeen.
The Spartans got off to a great start, getting out to a 13-6 lead after the first quarter. But, they they gave up 45 points in the second and third quarters as the Bobcats’ Ben Dublanko hit five 3-pointers.
“The second and third quarters were a big difference” said coach Rick Gooding.
Forks rallied to cut Aberdeen’s lead to a single possession in the fourth quarter, but the Spartans couldn’t get past the Bobcats, a bigger school that plays at a higher classification than Forks.
“Sometimes, it’s not the worst thing in the world to play up,” said Gooding.
The Spartans were led by Marky Adams with 19 points, Parker Browning with 13 and Jeffery Schumack with 10.
Forks (5-1) next plays a home game against Class 1B defending state champion Neah Bay (1-0) at 7 p.m. Friday.

North Kitsap 67, Sequim 45
POULSBO — Sequim lost a road game 67-45 to Olympic League 2A Division favorite North Kitsap.
The Wolves got 21 points and seven rebounds from Payton Glasser. Nate Despain scored 11 points. Glasser and Despain each hit two 3-pointers.
The Vikings had a balanced, deep attack with five players scoring at least eight points, led by Kohl Baffinger-Mahitika with 14.
The game was close in the first half, with the Wolves down only 31-26 entering the break. But, the Vikings used a big 23-12 fourth quarter to blow the game open.
Sequim (1-4, 0-3) next hosts Kingston at 7 p.m. Friday.
