BREMERTON — Port Angeles senior Gus Halberg exploded in Friday’s Olympic League boys basketball contest draining nine 3-point baskets and connecting for 46 points in the Roughriders’ 86-51 win over Olympic.
“Those might be school records,” Port Angeles coach Kasey Ulin said. “We are checking on that, but he went 9-for-13 from 3s and 13-for-19 from the floor. He made his first shot, second shot, third shot and had 19 in the first quarter. It was extremely efficient. The ball movement was phenomenal, they were looking for him and they did a great job of finding him. He’s a captain, he’s been banged up and to see him have a monster game is awesome.”
Ulin was pleased with the entire team’s performance.
“So proud of these guys. They’ve been so resilient and so close to breaking through,” Ulin said. “We’ve had adversity, injuries and the inner circle of the team has stuck together. So I’m happy for our guys.”
The Riders turned the ball over just four times, a season low.
Brock Hope had 11 points, 10 rebounds and six assists.
“He plays through so much contact and doesn’t get any calls and is penalized for his size [6-foot-8 inches]. He doesn’t get sent to the free throw line. He had six assists out of the high post and to the short corner.
And Pierce was solid off the bench with eight rebounds, four steals and three points. He had an impact on the game.
Brock was really good, his defensively rebound 10 rebounds, plays through contact, doesn’t get calls and gets penalized for his size. He doesn’t get the free throws. Six assists out of the high post and to the short corner. His passing has improved so much.
Pierce was solid off the bench, eight rebounds and four steals.

BAINBRIDGE — The Wolves had a rough fourth quarter on the road, giving up 22 in the final frame and ceding the contest to the Spartans.
Jericho Julmist led Sequim with 15 points. Ethan Melnick added 11 and Solomon Sheppard had 10.
Sequim (8-2, 13-2) fell into a tie with Bainbridge for second place behind 9-1 Bremerton.
The Wolves split with Bainbridge, winning 69-46 at home in December.
Sequim hosts Olympic at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

RAYMOND — In a loud and proud road gym, the Spartans handled their business and clinched a share of the Pacific League title by knocking off the second-place Ravens.
Forks (6-0, 16-2) can seal the league championship outright with a senior night win over North Beach on Friday.
“I don’t think there was an open spot to sit in the bleachers, their band adds a ton of energy and they bumped up their senior night to try and get a little extra motivation for the night, and it definitely worked,” Spartans coach Keith Weekes said.
The lead see-sawed between the teams throughout the contest with Raymond-South Bend’s Chris Quintana leading all scorers with 30-plus points. But Forks had answers of its own.
“Every time we really needed [a basket] Brody [Lausche] or Titus [Rowley] were able to get it to go down,” Weekes said. Rowley finished with 20 points, 14 rebounds and three steals.
Lausche added 17 points, 17 rebounds, a block and an assist.
“We were able to take the final lead with just over a minute left that we were able to hold on to.”
Weekes said the final minute was wild as the Ravens scored on an and-one 3-point play and with the chance to tie the game up, Quintana missed on a fastbreak layup.
“That seemed like his first miss all night,” Weekes said.
“We’ve got senior night next Friday and get to honor some amazing guys, then take care of business, then we will do a little celebrating and regroup for post season,” Weekes said.

JOYCE — Levi Bourm knocked down the game-winning 3-pointer with 14 seconds, giving the Loggers their only lead of the game and Crescent withstood a halfcourt heave at the buzzer to secure the victory.
The Loggers trailed by as much as eight points inside the final two minutes of the game.
“We came down the floor down one with 30 seconds left and got three really good looks after Dom and Josh Noel got huge offensive rebounds,” Crescent coach Chris Ferrier said. “We called a time out, ran a new play, and Levi hit a three.
“It was an incredible show of guts and toughness from our guys. We were down 8 inside of 2 minutes to go and we just kept scratching. Henry Bourm played hurt, Levi is banged up and our freshman Josh Noel battled hard against a more experienced guy. We got great things out of every guy that played.”
Crescent (2-1, 9-7) hosts Neah Bay on Wednesday.

NEAH BAY — The Neah Bay boys basketball team got 22 points from Makyah Chambers in beating Naselle 66-52.
Jodell Wimberly scored 14, Tyler Swan 11 and LeAnthony Jimmicum 10 for the Red Devils.
The Red Devils made quick work of the Bears on Friday night, putting up a 29-point first quarter on the way to a blowout win.
Mathias Greene led Neah Bay with 14 points, six rebounds, five steals and four assists.
Makyah Chambers added 12 points, eight steals, three assists and three boards and Thomas Sawyer posted a dozen points in the win.
Neah Bay (14-3) next plays at Crescent on Tuesday.

CHIMACUM — Cascade Christian, a 12-3 team tied for first place in the Nisqually League, overwhelmed East Jefferson 77-42 on Saturday.
Cascade is bound for [the state tournament in] Yakima,” said coach Adam Washburn. “They’re skilled, connected and they play hard.”
Luke O’Hara led the team with 16 points, making three 3-pointers. Julius Mercado also made three 3-pointers and scored 11 while John Mercado had nine points.
