BOYS BASKETBALL: Forks falls in district quarterfinals

Play Wahkiakum tonight at Rochester

CASTLE ROCK — Forks struggled against perennial Class 2B boys basketball state tournament contender Morton-White Pass in a 70-37 loss in the Southwest District IV Quarterfinals on Wednesday.

“Morton White-Pass (15-5) is the No. 2 seed in the (16-team) tournament, and they proved it. They got us pretty good,” Spartans coach Rick Gooding said.

“They are pretty balanced. They have a 6-foot-7 kid, a 6-4 lengthy wing. They got the ball inside and up high where we couldn’t get it, and we gave them second- and third-shot opportunities. We turned the ball over more times than we had been. They really came out and smacked us. They were the most aggressive team on the court, and they used their size well.”

No. 6-seeded Forks (13-9) will face No. 9 Wahkiakum (10-9) tonight in a loser-out game at Rochester High School at 7:30 p.m.

The Mules have previously beaten the Spartans twice this season.

Morton-White Pass 70, Forks 37

F 4 11 10 12 — 37

MWP 20 16 20 14 — 70

Forks (37): Olson 16, Salazar 6, Rancourt 5, Pursley 5, Northcut 3, Lausche 2, Davis, Doyle.
