Borde first at Battle of the Hills

OLYMPIA — Adam Borde won his 138-pound weight division at the Battle of the Hills Wrestling Invite at Black Hills High School.

Port Angeles finished fifth out of nine schools with 94 points. White River came in first with 178.5 points.

Borde won with three straight pins, beating Braden MacAlevy of Shelton in the finals with a pin in the second round.

Jason Kibe of Port Angeles also made it to the championship bout in the 195-pound weight division. He won two matches but fell in the title bout in a pin to finish second.

Roughrider Leslie Worthey finished third at 220 pounds, winning two out of three matches.

Other Port Angeles wrestlers who placed include:

• Sequoia Grippo, fourth, 126 pounds.

•  Josh Boe, fourth, 145 pounds.

• Corey Young, fourth, 152 pounds.

Port Angeles will next wrestle at North Mason in a three-way dual with Kingston and North Mason on Thursday.

Forks, Port Townsend at Sgt. Norton Tournament

RAINIER — Forks finished third and Port Townsend 10th at the Sgt. Norton Memorial Tournament with three champions from the Olympic Peninsula.

The Spartans’ Colton Duncan won his 138-pound weight division with four straight wins while teammate Hayden Queen won his 182-pound weight division with four straight wins, as well.

Port Townsend’s Kyle Caldwell won the 195-pound weight division with three wins.

Forks tallied 113 points while Port Townsend had 70.5. Eatonville won the meet with 164 team points, while Vashon had 118.

Forks’ Hayden Baker finished second at 170 pounds, nearly winning his weight division. He won three matches to make it to the championship bout then lost in an 8-6 decision to Ryan Nelson of Vashon in the finals.

Other Forks and Port Townsend wrestlers who placed include:

• Dalton Kilmer, Forks, fourth, 120 pounds.

• Jake Weakley, Forks, fourth, 132 pounds.

• Robbie Collier, Port Townsend, fourth, 170 pounds.

Dylan Tracer, Port Townsend, fourth, 182 pounds. Tracer went 3-1 on the day and was beaten only by Forks’ Queen.

Port Townsend’s Logan Massie also won three matches at 145 pounds.

Port Townsend will next wrestle at 6:15 p.m. Tuesday, hosting Vashon.

Forks will next wrestle Montesano and Elma at Montesano on Tuesday.

Sequim at Lads and Lasses

FIFE — Sequim’s Isaiah Cowan made it to the championship match of his 195-pound weight class at the Lads and Lasses Wrestling Invitational while Petra Bernsten won her weight division at the same event.

Cowan won two matches before falling in the title match with a pin by Elijah Humbyrd of Cascade.

Cowan’s teammate Bodi Sanderson finished third in the 285-pound weight division, winning his third-place match with a pin over Michael Aquino of Emerald Ridge.

For the girls, Bernsten won her 140-pound weight division. Bernsten won with a pin, then an 18-6 decision in the semifinal. She won her championship match with an injury default over Nathalie Singh of Fife.

Sequim’s Aleah Chen made it to the championship match in her 135-pound weight division, finishing second, while Alexi Rampp-Taft three out of four matches to finished third at 130 pounds.

Sequim next wrestles at Kingston with North Kitsap and Kingston in a three-way dual on Tuesday. The Sequim girls host Port Townsend and Olympic at 5 p.m. Thursday.
