BMX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS: Lincoln Park BMX riders represent track and country

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Lincoln Park BMXers represented track and country while competing in the 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Championship last week, with Kingston-based rider Wyatt Christensen coming home with a world championship title.

Christensen was joined at the competition by his siblings Warren and Elinor, and Port Angeles riders Kylin Weitz and Teyah Elofson-Cross — all of whom call the Lincoln Park BMX track home.

“We are proud of these young local riders from Lincoln Park BMX who rode for Team USA and took on the best riders from around the world and left their mark and honored to be able to go watch them race in person,” Lincoln Park BMX track operator Sean Coleman said.

“Having a much improved facility has definitely helped these riders compete on the world and national stage.”

Christensen beat out 111 other riders to win his championship Tuesday in the Boys 12-year old Challenge Class.

Elofson-Cross and Weitz opened the championships last Sunday in the 38-rider Challenge Cruiser Girl 8-12 Class with Elofson-Cross advancing to the semifinals and finishing in 14th place. Weitz was ousted in the early motos.

Weitz had success in Tuesday’s 62-rider Girls 11 Challenge Class, advancing to the semifinals and placing ninth.

Elofson-Cross went out in early motos of the 69-rider Girls 12 Challenge Class, also held Tuesday.

Warren Christensen made it to the 1/8th mains in his Boys 8 Challenge Class while Elinor Christensen qualified for the semifinals of the Girls 10 Challenge Class, eventually finishing 10th.

UCI stands for Union Cycliste Internationale, which is the international governing body for cycling.

Lincoln Park BMX will host a free “Give-it-a-Try” event designed to introduce new families to BMX racing Monday at the track, at the corner of South L. Street and West Lauridsen Boulevard from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

A beginners-only spring league will start June 3.
