PHOENIX — The Lincoln Park BMX track based out of Port Angeles has five riders, two from Port Angeles and three from Kingston, who qualified for six Team USA spots to compete at the UCI World BMX Championships in Rock Hill, S.C., in May.
Teyah Elofson-Cross, a fifth- grader from Dry Creek Elementary School, qualified in the 12 girls 20-inch challenge class in Phoenix this past weekend. She also will attempt to qualify for the 12 and under 24-inch challenge class at Blue Ridge National in Lexington, Va., on Feb. 9-11. This will be her first wold championship. She rides for Mayhem BMX.
Kylin Weitz, a fifth-grader from Franklin Elementary School, qualified to race in the 11 girls 20-inch challenge class and the 12 and under girls 24-inch challenge class at Phoenix. This is also her first world championship. She rides for Cycle Therapy.
Warren Christensen is one of three members of the Christensen family to qualify. He is a first-grader at Gordon Elementary School in Kingston, but like his siblings, his home track is Lincoln Park BMX. He qualified in the 8 boys 20-inch challenge class in Phoenix. He rides for Pedal Down Bike Shop in Arlington.
Elinor Christensen, a fourth- grader at Gordon Elementary School, qualified in the 10 girls 20-inch challenge class at Sarasota, Fla., on Jan 5-7. This is her third world championship. She finished 10th in her class in the 2023 world championship in Scotland and sixth in 2022 in France. She rides for Factory Full Tilt.
Wyatt Christensen is a sixth- grader at Kingston Middle School. He automatically qualified in the 12 boys 20-inch challenge class due to a third-place finish in Scotland in 2023. This is his fourth world championship. He was also third in 2019 in Belgium and eighth in 2022 in France. His also rides for Factory Full Tilt.
The 2024 world championships will be held from May 12-18.
