BASEBALL: Wilder Senior splits wild doubleheader

WENATCHEE — Wilder Senior split a pair of high-scoring 18U baseball games against the Wenatchee Apple Packers in a doubleheader Monday.

The Port Angeles-based squad won the early game by the footballish score of 20-13, then were beaten 13-3 in the nightcap.

Wilder got off to a fast start on the day, scoring seven runs in the first inning of game one. However, they found themselves locked in a 10-10 tie after just three innings as the Apple Packers roared back.

Wilder was able to put the game away for good with six runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh.

The game featured 27 hits, 13 walks and 19 stolen bases by both teams.

Luke Angevine was one of the heroes of the day with a double, a triple and three RBIs. He also stole two bases and scored two runs.

Carson Jackson had two hits, including a double, stole three bases, scored three runs and drove in three runs, while Forks’ Brett Moody had two hits, including a double, scored two runs and drove in two. Matt Hendry had a hit and a walk, scoring three runs and driving in one.

Kole Milyard also had two hits, including a double, and a walk and stolen base. He scored four runs.

Brady Shimko got the win, pitching the final 5 1/3 innings and giving up five earned runs on six hits.

In the nightcap, Wilder was able to get ahead 3-1, but they were shut down for the final three innings as Wenatchee was able to push across 12 runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.

Hendry had two hits and a walk, scoring a run, while Angevine had a double and a walk, scoring a run and driving in one. Moody also had two hits as he went 4 for 6 in the doubleheader.

The Wilder Seniors wrapped up their five-game road trip with a game Tuesday against Wenatchee. They are 2-2 so far on the trip so far.
