BASEBALL: Wilder Senior bows out at state tournament

CENTRALIA — Wilder Senior bowed out of the American Legion AAA State Tournament on Wednesday at Wheeler Field, held to five hits in a 10-0 defeat against the Vancouver Mavericks.

Wilder Senior went 3-2 overall at the state tournament with both losses to the Vancouver Mavericks.

Wilder Senior went 30-9 overall on the summer season.

More details will appear in Friday’s edition of the Peninsula Daily News.

Wilder 4, Lakeside Recovery 2

Wilder Baseball Club remained alive in the American Legion AAA State Tournament, beating their old league foe Lakeside Recovery 4-2 Tuesday behind outstanding pitching performances from Brady Shimko and Bo Bradow.

Wilder also got a home run and two runs scored from Tyler Bowen, while Carson Jackson went 3 for 3 with a triple and two runs scored.

There were five teams still alive in the tournament Wednesday, and three out of those five teams — Wilder, the Skagit Sox and Lakeside — are from the NW Area 1 AAA League. The other two teams are the Vancouver Mavericks and Pepsi Pak Selah.

Wilder and Lakeside tied for the league championship at 12-2 while the Skagit Sox were right behind at 10-4. Ironically, Lakeside was given the No. 1 seed from the NW Area 1 league, even though Wilder has now beaten Lakeside four out of five games, counting nonleague tournament games.

Wilder played one and possibly two games Wednesday after press deadline with the chance to move on the state championship game today.

Wilder played the Vancouver Mavericks after press deadline last night. If Wilder wins that game, they will have moved on to a late night game against Lakeside again to determine who goes to the championship game. Lakeside remains alive in the tournament because its loss to Wilder was its first of the tournament.

The Mavericks beat Wilder earlier in the tournament 11-6.

In Tuesday’s win, Shimko started, going four innings, giving up seven hits and one earned run, while striking out two and walking three. Bradow went the final three innings, completely shutting down Lakeside on zero hits and one walk, while striking out three.

Gavin Guerrero also had a hit and an RBI, driving in Jackson from third base in the fifth inning after his triple. Hayden Woods had a hit an an RBI, driving in Bowen, who had got on base after getting hit by a pitch.

If Wilder is in the championship game (look for updates on peninsuladailynews.com today), the game will be held at 1 p.m. today at Wheeler Field.
