BASEBALL: Wilder Senior hitting the road

PORT ANGELES — Wilder Senior has hit the road for the team’s first big road trip of the summer, a five-game slate during a trip across much of the state.

“We’re excited to get this group on the road as they’ve worked really hard over the past three to four weeks to prepare for this,” Wilder Senior manager Karl Myers said.

“These are the types of trips we look forward to making year after year, getting our kids on the road for long periods of time in multiple cities playing tough competition. These are similar to the trips that the [Port Angeles] Lefties are making, and are the types of trips that will prepare our kids for the rigors of college baseball, especially summer baseball.”

The 18U squad will play in Mount Vernon today and Saturday, facing the Skagit Sox tonight at 8 p.m. at Sherman Anderson Field and then playing the Mount Vernon Dawgs at 10 a.m. Saturday.

After an off day Sunday to enjoy the alpine air in Leavenworth, the squad will play a doubleheader Monday against the Wenatchee Apple Packers at Recreation Park in Wenatchee then wrap the trip with a noon game against the Apple Packers on Tuesday.

“We’re also excited to expose our kids to different areas of our state and allow them to explore off of the Peninsula and gain some life experiences in that regard,” Myers said. “We’re looking forward to allowing our kids to have some fun and bond as a group, specifically on our off day on Sunday in Leavenworth.

“Our ultimate goal is to push our kids to grow as baseball players but also to provide them with a fun well-rounded experience where they also grow as young men.

“[It] should be a great test for our guys against some good competition from elsewhere in our state.”
