BASEBALL: Wilder breaks out the bats in third-straight regionals win

QUINCY — Wilder Baseball Club broke out the bats to total 13 hits in a 9-6 win over Grays Harbor Longshore at the 16-18U Senior Babe Ruth Regional Tournament.

Wilder advanced to play Rural Baseball Inc. of Lewis County late Saturday in the tournament’s winners bracket final.

“We got the bats tonight, we sure did,” Wilder coach Mike Politika said of Friday night’s win against Grays Harbor.

Sequim hitters came up big for the team.

James Grubb led the Wilder hitting attack by going 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs.

Evan Hurn hit a solo home run to left field in the third inning to put Wilder up 4-1.

Port Angeles’ Ben Basden went 2 for 3, scoring twice and driving in a run.

Matt Hendry also had an RBI double and Anders Chapman was 2 for 3 with a double and a run.

Curan Bradley picked up the win on the mound for Wilder.

He allowed three runs, two earned, on six hits and four walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Bradley also struck out three.

If Wilder beats R.B.I. the area team would need to win just one more game today to head to the Senior Babe Ruth World Series in Ephrata from Aug. 6-13.

A loss against R.B.I. and Wilder would need to win three games in a row today to head to the World Series.
