POULSBO — The Port Angeles Roughriders had been handled for six innings by North Kitsap pitchers, but then erupted for eight runs in the top of the seventh to shock the Vikings 9-4.
The Riders were down 4-1 going into the seventh. Dalton Brockett allowed just two hits in five innings and no earned runs. Noah Sorensen allowed no hits and struck out two in the sixth.
Then in the seventh, the Riders got to Sorenson.
“Our bats had been quiet all day. Their pitchers had been pretty effective,” said Riders coach Casey Dietz.
Port Angeles ended up sending 13 batters to the plate in that seventh inning, with a walk, seven singles and two doubles resulting in seven runs.

“We really got a string of stuff going there,” said Riders coach Casey Dietz. “What was awesome was our 7-8-9 hitters started it.”
Michael Soule started the rally with a walk. Soule ended up scoring twice in the inning and had an RBI double. Kameron Meadows also had an RBI double and got two hits and two RBIs in the inning. Soule finished with three runs scored for the game.
Landon Seibel had two RBIs.
“Once we get going it’s pretty hard to shut it down. They smelled blood in the water, ” Dietz said. Dietz said starter John Vaara pitched well, keeping the Vikings off the scoreboard despite giving up four walks. Wyatt Hall picked up the victory on the mound, going 1 2/3 innings and giving up just one hit. Ty Bradow came in in the seventh to shut the door on the Vikings, allowing just a walk.
The Riders (9-2) next play Monday on the road at Central Kitsap (8-4), a 3A team. They wrap up their season with Senior Night at 4:15 p.m. Tuesday at Civic Field against Central Kitsap.

PORT ANGELES — The Riders pounded out 25 hits and gave up just five total in two wins this weekend, 11-1 over Kingston on Thursday and 11-0 over Central Kitsap on Friday.
Zoe Smithson, Peyton Rudd and Ava Brenkman all hit home runs against Central Kitsap. Smithson also hit a pair of triple, scored three runs and had three RBIs. Teagan Clark hit 3-for-3 with a double, while Natalie Robinson hit a triple, Taylor Worthington had a double and Emi Halberg had a hit and an RBI.
Clark pitched four innings, giving up no runs on three hits and a walk. She struck out five. Cheyenne Zimmer struck out the side in one inning pitched.
“Port Angeles played error-free defense, took advantage on the bases, squared up on the ball and was lights out pitching. This was one of the best all around games of the year,” said coach Randy Steinman.

Kingston win
The Riders pounded out 12 hits and limited the Buccaneers to just two in a five-inning win.
“Teagan [Clark] and Peyton [Rudd] combined on a two hitter and had complete command of all pitches,” Steinman said. “All players crushed the ball around the park highlighted by Natalie Robinson’s towering home run to left field.
“The Riders played error-free ball and made some amazing catches in the outfield.”
Robinson went 2 for 3 with a two-run homer, two runs and three RBIs.
Leadoff hitter Smithson doubled twice and scored twice, Jada Cargo-Acosta was 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and an two RBIs and Brenkman went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs and an RBI.
Worthington added two hits, two runs and drove in three, while Lily Halberg doubled and drove in a run and Emi Halberg singled and scored.
Clark pitched three perfect innings with four strikeouts for the Riders.
Port Angeles (11-0) plays Central Kitsap at 4:15 p.m. Monday for Senior Night.
