BASEBALL: Red-hot Port Angeles 12U revs up for 25th Dick Brown Tournament with win

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles 12U baseball enters this weekend’s 25th Dick Brown Memorial Tournament on a hot streak after a sizzling performance at an Everett select tournament last weekend.

The Peninsula squad dispatched a number of Seattle-area travel ball teams to win the Love of the Game Tournament held at Phil Johnson Field, the Port Angeles squad’s second tournament victory of the summer.

In a back-and-forth championship game, Port Angeles rallied from a 6-4 deficit against the Mukilteo Mavs in the bottom of the sixth inning — the final inning of regulation play — to pull out a 7-6 triumph, scoring the winning run on a close, head-first slide at home plate.

Port Angeles 12U will be one of four Port Angeles squads playing in the 25th Dick Brown tournament Saturday and Sunday at the Lincoln Park ballfields.

They will face the Whatcom Mudcats at 1 p.m. and the Kitsap Osprey at 3 p.m. in the five-team 12U Division with Port Angeles Blue also in the mix.

A three-team 9-and-10-year old division features PA Red and PA Blue.
