VICTORIA — Port Angeles starter Kailen Kimata yielded a three-run home run to Tyler Davis in the bottom of the first inning and the HarbourCats sealed the series sweep with an eight-run fifth inning in a 13-4 win over the Lefties on Thursday night.
It was the second series sweep of the Lefties by Victoria this summer and improved the HarbourCats home record at Royal Athletic Park to 17-1, tops in the West Coast League.
Port Angeles put two runs across in the second. Kyle Becker singled to right field and came around on an error and a passed ball. Ethan Young’s sacrifice fly drove in Chanz Doughty and cut the Victoria lead to 3-2.
Isiah Walz reached via error to lead off the third inning, advanced on another error that put Roberto Nunez at first and scored on Mauricio Guardado’s fielder’s choice to trail 4-3.
In addition to his first inning blast Thursday Davis added two more RBI in that eight-run HarbourCats fifth, as Victoria teed off on Lefties’ reliever Wes Penninger.
Also key in that inning was a two-RBI single from Jesse Brown, who had a pair of hits in the game.
Young added a solo home run in the sixth to round out Port Angeles offensively.
On the mound, Loreto Siniscalchi earned the win, throwing three innings of solid relief behind starter Jed Decooman who went three innings, giving up one earned run on just one Lefties hit.
Nick Taylor, Brett Harvey and Ryder Green all pitched an inning of mop-up relief to close out the game.
Port Angeles reliever CJ Lewis was a highlight for the Lefties, allowing no runs on one hit and one walk with two strikeouts in 2.2 innings pitched.
Wilder AA out
MOUNT VERNON — Gunner Rogers tossed a complete-game two-hitter but Wilder AA was ousted from the American Legion District 1 Tournament in a 2-1 loss to the Stanwood Cannons on Thursday.
Wilder yielded a steal of home plate by Sean Porter with two outs in the top of the third to trail 1-0.
The area squad rebounded to tie the game in the bottom of the fourth. Lincoln Bear singled with two outs and advanced to second base on an error. Pinch-runner Kaeden Indelicato was inserted for Bear and came home from second on Trae Hanan’s RBI single to right field to tie it up at 1-1.
Porter’s fleet feet led to the eventual winning run in the top of the sixth inning.
Porter singled to open the frame, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a ground out to first base for a 2-1 lead.
Wilder loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the seventh on a Hanan walk, a Hunter Stratford bunt single and a Bryant Laboy bunt single.
With the top of the order at bat, Wilder’s Bryce DeLeon, Ethan Staples and Rogers all struck out swinging to close out the contest.
Wilder’s record dropped to 21-9 on the summer.
