BASEBALL: Olympic Crosscutters use extra-base hits to pound Post 7

ANACORTES — The Olympic Crosscutters 18U baseball club pounded out seven extra-base hits, including three triples, to pound American Legion Post 7 of Bellingham 11-3 in six innings at Volunteer Field.

The Crosscutters started fast, posting four runs in the bottom of the second inning.

With one out, Lane Dotson tripled and was brought home on a double by James Thayer.

After a Ben Bruner walk, a double by Matt Bainbridge scored Thayer and Bruner.

A Gavin Velarde triple to right field scored Bainbridge.

Post 7 put up three runs in the top of the third, but Olympic added one run in the bottom of the fourth, two in the fifth and four more in the sixth to close out the contest.

Thayer had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the second and fifth innings.

Justin Porter also produced at the plate for the Crosscutters going 2 for 4 with a two-run triple in the sixth inning, along with a double, a stolen base and two runs.

Andy Johnston earned the win on the mound by going three innings, allowing three runs on four hits while striking out two and walking one.

Anthony Bitegeko went two scoreless innings in relief for the Cutters (4-0) and Cole Dotson also pitched a clean inning.

The Crosscutters will host a doubleheader with Central Kitsap at Civic Field in Port Angeles at 3 p.m. Monday.
