BASEBALL: Lefties rally for 5-3 win over Wenatchee, stop skid at 6 games

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles came out on top 5-3 over Wenatchee in a back-and-forth, fast-paced game that lasted barely over 2 hours Wednesday night at Civic Field.

The Lefties snapped a six-game losing skid with the victory, rallying in the bottom of the seventh after an error-plagued top of the inning allowed Wenatchee to tie the game at 3-all.

Port Angeles scored a run thanks to two errors on the same play by Apple Sox second baseman Frankie Carney coupled with a throwing error by center fielder Kyle Hennington backing up the play that scored MJ Kim.

Trent Jackson followed with a sacrifice fly to put the Lefties up 5-3.

Jackson notched his first home run of the summer, a two-run shot in the bottom of the first to put Port Angeles on top early.

Kam Koester returned to the Lefties’ lineup and drove in his 10th run of the season on an RBI single to give Port Angeles a 3-0 lead after one inning.

Colby Scheuber was solid on the mound for the Lefties, going 6.2 innings and allowing three runs, one earned, on five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

He didn’t pick up the win however, as three outfield errors led to two unearned runs and saw Scheuber sent to the showers.

Wes Peninger came on in relief, striking out Carney with the go-ahead-run in scoring position.

CJ Lewis pitched a clean ninth inning, striking out two to earn his third save of the summer.

Port Angeles (9-20) hosts the Redmond Dudes for a three-game nonleague set tonight and Saturday at 6:35 p.m. and 1:35 p.m. on Sunday.
