SEQUIM — Sequim couldn’t keep Port Angeles’ Colton Romero off the basepaths as the Roughriders put together another solid day at the plate, pounding out 11 hits and taking advantage of five Sequim errors in a 12-2 win in five innings Thursday in Sequim.
Romero was 4 for 4 for Port Angeles with three stolen bases, three runs scored and two RBIs in the Riders’ second 10-run win over their rivals this week.
Sequim took the upper hand early on as Lincoln Bear reached base with a one-out single in the bottom of the first and was promptly driven home on a double to right field by Ayden Holland for a 1-0 Wolves lead on Port Angeles and pitcher Ethan Flodstrom
It took Port Angeles a trip through the batting order before the floodgates opened offensively in a five-run top of the third inning.
Leadoff hitter Alex Angevine reached base via error with one out and moved up the bases to second on another Sequim error and to third on a passed ball.
Romero singled Angevine home to tie the game at 1-1, stole second and moved to third on Flodstrom’s fly out to right field.
With two outs, Port Angeles took advantage of back-to-back hit-by-pitches to Jordan Shumway and Ezra Townsend to load the bases and went ahead when Kole Acker’s infield single scored Romero.
Kaleb Mullen followed with a two-run single and Acker later scored when Luke Flodstrom was hit by a pitch for a 5-1 lead.
Shumway added a two-run single in the top of the fourth and both Romero, T Jacobsen and Blake Sohlberg added RBI singles in a five-run fifth inning for Port Angeles.
Sequim closed out the scoring in its last at-bats when freshman Devyn Dearinger drove home Brayden White, who had reached base on a two-out triple in the bottom of the fifth.
Flodstrom earned the win on the hill, going the full five innings while allowing two earned runs on seven hits and four walks and striking out six.
Port Angeles (5-2, 8-3) visits Olympic today.
Sequim (1-7, 3-7) hosts East Jefferson today.
