BASEBALL: All-Peninsula team announced

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles’ do-it-all junior Colton McGuffey is the 2017 All-Peninsula Baseball MVP.

McGuffey headlines a team made up of fellow Roughriders and rival Sequim Wolves with representatives from Forks, Quilcene and Chimacum.

Fellow team members are: Luke Angevine, Dane Bradow and Tyrus Beckett of Port Angeles; Gavin Velarde, Ian Miller, James Grubb and Justin Porter of Sequim; along with Chance Wilson of Forks; Lane Dotson of Chimacum and Andy Johnston of Quilcene. Karl Myers was selected coach of the year for guiding the Riders to a repeat trip to the Class 2A state tournament after suffering significant losses to graduation in 2016.

Luke Angevine Port Angeles (Senior) Shortstop Batted team-high .426 w/.456 OBP, .614 slugging and 1.070 OPS. Six doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 14 RBI, 12 runs. 1st team all-league SS.

Tyrus Beckett Port Angeles (Senior) Catcher .293 average, .474 OBP, .466 slugging with five doubles, 1 triple, 1 HR, 7 RBI. Excellent job calling pitches for sterling Riders’ pitching staff.

Dane Bradow Port Angeles (Senior) Pitcher Had hard-luck 1-4 record, but 1.45 ERA, 1.04 WHIP, 48K in 54 IP earned Riders No. 1 pitcher 1st-team All-Olympic League honors.

Lane Dotson Chimacum (Senior) INF/C/Pitcher Part of a pitcher-catcher battery with brother Cole. Batted .381 and selected 1st -team All-Olympic League 1A as utility player.

Ethan Flodstrom Port Angeles (Freshman) OF/Pitcher 1st-team all-league OF batted .400 with .567 slugging in OL play. 5 doubles, 2 triples, 13 RBI. 1-2 record, 3.20 ERA, 23K in 15 IP.

James Grubb Sequim (Senior) Pitcher/OF 1st-team all-league OF batted .432, drove in 33 runs, stole team-high 19 bases for speedy Wolves. 2-1 with 4.20 ERA as pitcher

Andy Johnston Quilcene (Senior) Pitcher/Shortstop SeaTac League MVP batted .558 with .651 slugging, 12 RBIs, 15 R. Stole 21 bases. 3.20 ERA with 68 strikeouts against 193 batters.

Justin Porter Sequim (Senior) Infielder/Pitcher Second-team all-league 2B hit .417 with three doubles, one triple and eight RBIs. 13 stolen bases. 1.527 ERA in 18 innings pitched.

Gavin Velarde Sequim (Junior) Shortstop/Pitcher Batted .420 with .523 OBP, .623 slugging and 1.146 OPS. 18 stolen bases. 2nd-team all-league pick. 2-0 as pitcher with 1.615 ERA in 13 IP.

Chance Wilson Forks (Junior) Pitcher/Shortstop First-team All-Evergreen League 1A pick at shortstop. Also pitched well for Spartans.

Ian Miller Sequim (Junior) Pitcher/INF/OF Wolves ace went 5-2 with 2.60 ERA and 1.186 WHIP. 32K in 43 IP. 1st-team All-Olympic League selection on the mound.
