BABE RUTH REGIONALS: Wilder A makes it to semifinals

Olympic Peninsula team goes 3-2 in tourney

MERIDIAN, Idaho — The Wilder A Baseball Club made it to the semifinals of the Babe Ruth 13-16 Pacific Northwest Regionals Saturday, bowing out of the tournament after a 6-0 loss to Glendive, Montana.

Wilder A (10-13 overall) went 3-2 in the tournament. The team went 3-1 in pool play to finish second in its pool and qualify for the elimination round.

Wilder A started off Thursday beating the Cheyenne, Wyo., Mustangs 13-2, then beating Middleton, Idaho 11-1.

In the Cheyenne game, Eden Peterson scored three runs, while Parker Pavlak had two RBI. Lalo Dominguez pitched 3⅓ innings and allowed two hits while striking out seven. Noah Green pitched the final 1⅓ and allowed two hits while striking out three.

In the Middleton victory, Green went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Wyatt Bruch and Morgan Evans each had a hit, a run scored and two RBIs.

On the mound, Pavlak went 3⅔ innings, giving up zero hits and striking out 10 batters.

Wilder A lost 21-6 to Premier Blues, a team out of the big city of Calgary, Alberta. However, they bounced back from that rough loss with an 11-8 win over Terry, Mont. Interestingly, Calgary has a population of more than 1 million, while the tiny town of Terry has a population of 560, but they both qualified for regionals.

In the win over Terry, Logan Botero was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, while Pavlak had a hit, three runs scored and two RBIs. Easton Schlichting had two RBIs.

On the mound, Botero and Bruch combined to allow 12 hits, but just two earned runs.

Glendive and Meridian Select out of Idaho will play for the Pacific Northwest Regionals finals for the right to move on to the Babe Ruth World Series.

The North Olympic 13U and Wilder Senior each won their Babe Ruth Regional championships to move on to their respective World Series. The Wilder Senior club qualified to move on to Ocala, Fla. beginning Friday, while the North Olympic 13U team qualified for the Babe Ruth 13U World Series Aug. 16-23 in Jamestown, N.Y.
