ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Port Angeles’ Tyler Bowen and Crescent’s Noah Leonard, football

We felt two extraordinary performances this week deserved our Athlete of the Week honor.

Port Angeles’ Tyler Bowen was a huge part of the Roughriders’ come-from-behind win over North Mason to qualify for their first district football playoff berth since 2011.

Bowen had an interception to kill one North Mason drive and a huge 65-yard pass reception to set up a Riders’ touchdown. He was badly injured on that play with a sprained ankle, but his effort helped inspire the Riders to go on to win.

Crescent’s Noah Leonard has already been an Athlete of the Week, but his game Saturday was so unreal, we just had to name him again.

Leonard rushed 17 times for 392 yards and caught four passes for 137 more yards for an astounding 529 yards from scrimmage.

Leonard also scored 10 touchdowns in Crescent’s 86-28 win over Mary M. Knight, tying a school record. If that wasn’t enough, he even added four quarterback sacks.

Congratulations to both of these athletes.
