ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Parker Nickerson, Port Angeles basketball; Conner Ferro-May, Crescent basketball

Our Athletes of the Week for Jan. 17 are Parker Nickerson of the Port Angeles boys basketball team and Conner Ferro-May for the Crescent basketball team.

Nickerson scored 31 points against Sequim in the Roughriders’ 76-49 win over the Wolves last week, including 25 in the first half, the biggest offensive output of his career. Nickerson, who is 6-foot-3 but has an outstanding vertical leap, scored six of those points on a trio of tomahawk dunks.

Homecoming king Ferro-May, who no longer has his long mane of hair, has been a huge part of Crescent’s 9-3 start this season, and his production just seems to keep growing each week. He scored 22 points against Clallam Bay on Jan. 13, had 19 points and 14 rebounds against Taholah on Jan. 7 and had another huge game against Forks on Dec. 28, going for 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Athletes of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store in Port Angeles.
