This week, we recognize a pair of girl wrestlers at opposite ends of the Olympic Peninsula who have had outstanding starts to their 2023-24 seasons.
East Jefferson’s Mi Amada Lanphear-Ramirez has been a force at 115 pounds. She took first in the prestigious Hammerhead Invitational at the Kitsap Sun Pavilion in Bremerton on Dec. 16, winning three matches by pins and taking her championship match in a 14-7 decision. Lanphear-Ramirez finished third last spring at the Mat Classic, and is ranked No. 1 in her weight class in the state this year.
Miley Blanton of Forks took first with three straight pins at 125 pounds at the Tony Saldivar Ironman tournament in Granger on Dec. 9. She was also second at the Hammerhead Invite with two pins and a major decision victory and was second last week at the Grizzly Stocking Stuffer tourney in Hoquiam with a pin, major decision and a victory by decision.
Both girls are wrestling later this week at The Rock tournament at Vashon High School.
