ATHLETES OF THE WEEK: Kedryn DeScala, Port Angeles soccer and Luke O’Hara, East Jefferson football

Port Angeles girls’ soccer player Kedryn DeScala did her best this weekend to extend the Roughriders season at least two more games.

In a crucial loser-out playoff match against Franklin Pierce, DeScala had a huge game with a hat trick in a 7-0 win, sending the Riders into the double-elimination phase of the district tournament. She scored one goal by simply outrunning the Franklin Pierce defenders, got her second goal on a beautiful header on a cross from teammate Mariah Traband and got her third in the second half with a little bit of luck as a crossing pass got past the Cardinals’ keeper.

For the East Jefferson Rivals, freshman Luke O’Hara had an incredible game to lead East Jefferson to a 55-0 win over Vashon. O’Hara had 12 rushes for 201 yards and four touchdowns. He also threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Deken Lorenzen, had a 13-yard reception himself and added a 30-yard kick return for a grand total of 324 all-purpose yards.

Athletes of the Week is sponsored by Swain’s General Store of Port Angeles.
